IFIGK @ WeMakeTheCity

This summer, Ike was invited to speak at the WeMakeTheCity Festival, focussing on urban planning during a Friday morning forum called Making Places. For this occasion, IG Karfield wrote a spoken word piece, inspired by the legacy of Jane Jacobs, titled There is no logic that can be superimposed on human kind.

Check out his performance in the video below, starting at TC 1:23:52.

Woordnacht 2018

A very special performance, together with seven other spoken word artists, for this literary festival in Rotterdam, Ike was invited to write a piece in response to W.H. Auden’s ‘The Night Mail’. Each artist approached the subject ‘Zeitgeist’ and appropriated — some more than others — the original poem’s form to write their own.

All eight of us were present to perform our pieces at the event in Rotterdam, which was kicked off with a performance by poet laureate of The Netherlands, Ester Naomi Perquin. (Wow — that was really something!) With a lively crowd of burned out, homeless and (partly) drunk visitors to the event’s location (Pauluskerk), this was a very special evening indeed. Thank you, organizer Myrte Leffring for the invite, the honor!

Frontaal #26

frontaal26

Last night, March 18th, Ike performed on what we believe to be one of the best stages for literary performances: Frontaal Podium in WORM (Rotterdam). Organizers Robbert Meijntjes, Elske Jacobs, and Sacha Boom take it upon themselves to take great care of their speakers, as well as their audience. Every guest will find a book underneath their seat which they can take home or trade with other guests; and the half-time quiz — first prize usually a copy of the main speaker’s latest publication — has by now become legendary. Thank you, Frontaal, for the invitation, your care and passion!

On March 18th, for the 26th edition of Frontaal, Ike was fortunate to be part of some literary force of unheard-of proportions, with the likes of Kristien Hemmerechts, Dean Bowen, Roelof ten Napel, and Emma van Hooff.

SCHATTEBOUT

Ike performed some of his sweatier work during this Valentine’s dinner event at the forever temporary restaurant location BAUT in Amsterdam. It was about love and intimacy and stuff. Thanks for the invite, Programmeursgilde — we had a blast (and a chicken breast). Look out for next year’s event at BAUT, they are delicious!schattebaut

Ike @ Read My World Festival

Guest appearance at the Read My World Festival. Bonfires, poetry, awareness. Thanks to Woorden Worden Zinnen for the invite. The website features a great old picture; it’s a freeze frame from the video nomination rounds of Van Dale Spoken FM Awards 2015. We suppose Mr. Karfield was talking too loud for Ike’s liking. None such cacophony during this intimate little performance at Tolhuistuin.

Ike @ Underground

Last Saturday there was an underground party somewhere in Amsterdam, of which few details may be openly discussed. Anyway, Ike and IG Karfield both, we suppose, were there. And our brains is currently still a bit fried. We were drowned in Cava and compliments…coke and calabash. Thanks to Zsa Zsa for the invite, and that crazy artistic vision bearing host of the evening. No-one reads this so we might as well say his. Still, we won’t. Next time maybe. This is what us looked like that night:

Ike @ Duizel in het Park

Hitting up Rotterdam, together with spoken word monster beasts Derek Otte, Mariana Hirschfield, and M. The four of us were featured in a segment called ‘Luister & Duizel’.  Thanks for the invite, you guys! We had fun…Hope the Vroesenpark visitors did, too.

Ike for Lettertypes

For an online word life initiative, Ike was invited to share a quote with culture king Lettertypes and the Haarlem library. It goes by #schrijversvandebieb (instagram it). Illustrator Linda van Bruggen reacts to quotes or small poems from different spoken word artists in The Netherlands. Mind you, these words are not spoken — they is a picture. Thanks to those involved for the collabo! We like our words in coffee.

Ike @ Worldtalks &Co

Back in April of this year, Ike was invited to speak at a TGI Friday forum at the SSBA Salon in Amsterdam, organized by Worldtalks &Co. Talks were held about the ongoing formation of the parliamental (pun unintended) coalition of this country. What could the people do to positively influence that secret government kneading of the mud? Ike talked about hippos.
